The two Norwegian Engineering organisations, TEKNA and Norges Ingeniororganisasjon - NITO (The Norwegian Society of Engineers) are both recognized by the national authorities.

This means that both organisations are represented in various official bodies, among them the Council for Engineering Education, and other official bodies concerned with engineering matters. As members of Akademikernes Fellesorganisasjon (The Federation of Norwegian Professional Organisations) they are represented in the body for cooperation between the Government, Employers Organisations and Employees Organisations in Norway, a Government-appointed organisation concerned with cooperation regarding working conditions and basis for salary negotiations. As both organisations are independent -as all professional organisations- no official acts or texts are stating their recognition, except in specific official documents were they are referred to as bodies or in their capacity as negociating organisations in trade union matters.
