Employability Toolkit

The Employability Toolkit has been designed to help the European Engineer to increase his/her employability. The Employability Toolkit can be used when making career plans or looking for a new job.

The job market can be restless and react fast to national and global changes. Therefore, it is important for you to be able to make the most of the professional opportunities available at different times. You need to know what your competence is whether you have a job or are looking for a job.

Depending on the overall situation your challenges are different:

  • During times of economic recession, your task is to find the scarce opportunities when they may not even be publicly advertised.
  • During better economic times, your task may be making the right choice between three exciting job offers which all would lead to different career paths.
  • And during all times, you probably do not want to lose the job you already have.

You can have a better insight into your professional competence, goals and the job opportunities available for you. Follow these 3 steps. You need to think through the 3 steps several times during your career. Your career is a process.

These three steps guide you through a SWOT analysis of your professional situation and prospects.

FINDING THE RIGHT JOB IS A TOUGH TASK!

When applying for a new job, you need to send a CV and an application letter. In the 21st century the media in use is often electronic but you still have to tell the potential employer the same message as “in the old days”:

  • Who are you?
  • What have you achieved?
  • What are you able to do?
  • Why are you the one who should be chosen?
  • Why would you like to work for them?

ANALYSE YOUR CAREER SITUATION!

The Employability Toolkit offers you information and exercises that will help you analyse your past and present career situation. You can then make a functional action plan to reach your career goals and to plan your competence development. A systematic and analytical approach will increase your employability.

The Employability Toolkit is a product of the Employability Working Group of the ENGINEERS EUROPE Continuing Professional Development Committee.
